Highest scores by No. 8 batters in ODIs

The 50-over format of the sport is one of the trickiest formats to be scoring runs and racking up wickets. Scoring runs in any format of the game is a delightful feeling for players, however, when it comes from someone down the batting order, it is rather surprising. That said, there have been quite a few instances wherein batters from the no. 8 position have come in and blasted massive runs. Here is a list of the top three no. 8 batters scoring big in the ODI format-

3. Nathan Coulter-Nile (AUS) – 92 runs

In the 50-over World Cup in 2019, Australia played West Indies in Nottingham when Nathan Coulter-Nile came down the order and pulled off something exceptional. Just when the top-order failed to fire, Coulter-Nile who came in the no. 8 spot blasted 92 runs from 60 balls effortlessly, which included four sixes and eight fours. The Aussies eventually won the all-important clash by 15 runs.

2. Sam Curran and Chris Woakes (ENG) – 95*

Both Sam Curran and Chris Woakes in their respective matches against India and Sri Lanka registered the second-highest score in the no. 8 position. The duo registered an unbeaten 95 runs against the two Asian giants in 2021 and in 2016 with the India clash ending in a losing cause whereas the contest with the Lankan Lions yielded a tie.

1. Mehidy Hasan (BAN) and Simi Singh (IRE) – 100*

Mehidy Hasan has been in sensational form in the ongoing three-match ODI series against India. The Bangla Tigers all-rounder scored a blistering knock of 100* to help his side win the third ODI out of the mud. Similarly, Ireland’s Simi Singh played out a majestic unbeaten 100-run knock against South Africa when the top order collapsed. However, his knock went in vain as the Proteas won the fixture in 2021.
