3. Wasim Jaffer, Virender Sehwag, 159 runs, 2nd Test, Gros Islet, 2006

After captain Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to bar first, the decision was vindicated by the opening stand of Virender Sehwag and Wasim Jaffer. The duo put on a massive stand of 159 for the wicket and gave India the perfect foundation to put on 588/8d in the first innings. Sehwag played a breathtaking knock of 180 off 190 while Jaffer scored 43 (92). The game ended in a draw and Sehwag was awarded Player of the Match for his stupendous innings.

2. Virender Sehwag, Sanjay Bangar, 201 runs, 1st Test, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, October 2002

After captain Sourav Ganguly won the toss and elected to bat first, Virender Sehwag and Sanjay Bangar gave the perfect start to their side with their partnership of 201 runs. Sehwag went on to score 147 (206) while Sanjay Bangar scored 55 (187). India went on to score 457 runs in the first innings and won the match by a massive margin of an innings and 112 runs. India went on to win the second Test as well and won the series 2-0.

1. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, 229 runs, 1st Test, Roseau, July 2023

After bundling out West Indies for just 150 in the first innings, captain Rohit Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal got their team off to a perfect start with their 229-run stand. Rohit scored 103 (221) while Jaiswal scored a brilliant 171 (387) on his debut and became the 17th Indian player to score a hundred. India went on to win the match by an innings and 141 runs and Jaiswal was awarded Player of the Match.
