I want to play 100 Test matches for India: Chetan Sakariya

The Indian Premier League (IPL), over the years, has provided the platform for the Indian cricketers to showcase their talent. Several players have become famous and also played for India with their performance in the cash-rich league. The left-arm seamer Chetan Sakariya is one such story who worked hard to make his dreams come true and thanks to his impressive show in the IPL earlier this year, he was picked to play for India on Sri Lanka tour.

The 23-year-old played one ODI and two T20 Internationals on the tour showcasing decent numbers. Having played for India in the two formats, Sakariya’s dream is to don the whites for his country and do well. He understands the importance of being a Test cricketer and is willing to play a whopping 100 matches in the format.

“I want to play 100 Test matches for my country. Because, as a cricketer, the biggest feat is to be a Test cricketer. If you play one match or many matches, it’s a big achievement to become a Test player in cricketing circles. So I want to play 100 Test matches for my country,” he said during the Q&A session on social media.

Sakariya lauds Samson for supporting youngsters

Chetan Sakariya made his IPL debut earlier this year for the Rajasthan Royals under Sanju Samson‘s captaincy and impressed with his variations, especially in the death overs. When asked about his skipper, Sakariya was all praise of him and revealed that Samson takes all the pressure off the youngsters.

“I’ll say Sanju (Samson) is a captain who supports youngsters a lot. Sanju doesn’t let extra pressure come to you. Like when I made my debut, there was a lot of pressure on me. But he took that pressure on himself and told me to bowl freely,” Sakariya further added.

He is currently in the UAE gearing up for the second leg of the IPL. Chetan Sakariya picked up seven wickets in the first leg and will be looking forward to pick a few more.
