IND vs AFG Review: Kohli’s century lights up India’s victory

India ended their campaign in the Asia Cup 2022 with a thumping win against Afghanistan and the day completely belonged to the Men in Blue. The opening partnership of 119 between KL Rahul (62) and Virat Kohli set up the platform for the incoming batters to go after the bowling. Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant made small contributions, but the man of the moment was Kohli, who brought up his first century in the format.

It came after a long wait and India could not have hoped for a better finish in the tournament after an early exit. His unbeaten 122 meant that India got to a massive 212/2 after losing the toss. Afghanistan in reply, were reeling at 21 for 6 after Bhuvneshwar Kumar wreaked havoc with the new ball. The seamer picked up a five-wicket haul in the process and it was just a formality after that. Ibrahim Zadran stuck around for an unbeaten 64 off 59 balls while there was not much contributions to talk about.

Top Performers from the game

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli was back at his prime mode with the bat and finally, brought up his 71st international ton`. The unbeaten 122 off 61 balls included 12 fours and six sixes and it was the first hundred for Kohli in almost three years. He helped the Indian side to a total of more than 200 on the board and showed his class with the bat.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar showed a master class of swing bowling as he swung it both ways with the new ball and picked up a flurry of wickets in the powerplay. He dismantled the Afghanistan batting line-up and used his variations to outsmart as well. The right-arm seamer finished with extraordinary figures of 5 for 4 in his four overs.
