IND vs AUS: 1st ODI Venue record – Mohali

After clinching their eighth Asia Cup title, high-flying India now locks horns with rivals Australia in a three-match one-day international series on home soil. The first encounter is scheduled to take place on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The second and the third games will be played on September 24 and 27 in Indore and Rajkot, respectively.

Speaking about the performances, youngster Shubman Gill led the batting chart as he ended the campaign as the highest run-getter. The right-handed opener struck 302 runs at an impressive average of 75.50 with the help of one century and two fifties. In the bowling department, seamer Mohammed Siraj picked up the most wickets (ten) for India including a devastating spell of 6/21 against Sri Lanka in the mega final.

On the other hand, the Aussies lost their five-match ODI series with South Africa in South Africa after taking a lead of 2-0. The home side staged a solid comeback to win the last three matches on the bounce. Talking more about the upcoming series, it will be the last assignment for both the Men in Blue and the Kangaroos before the ultimate showpiece event, the World Cup.

Coming back to the Mohali ODI, India played their first-ever game at the venue way back in 1993 against South Africa. Their last outing at this stadium came against the Aussies in 2019 when they lost the contest by a margin of four wickets. India and Australia have met each other five times in Mohali and the tourists have won on four occasions, which includes all the last four fixtures.

The Aussies first played here against West Indies in the 1996 World Cup game. Overall, they have a solid and impressive record at the venue in one-day internationals with six victories in seven matches. On the other hand, the home side have played 16 games with ten wins and six defeats.
