IND vs SA: Kohli, Miller scale new heights in second T20I

India

India clinched a comfortable victory in the 2nd T20I of the series against South Africa in Mohali. An inexperienced Proteas unit was outmatched by the class and quality of the Indian side.

The bowlers first came up with a disciplined performance to restrict the South Africans to a score of 149-5. Despite getting off to a steady start, the Proteas could not accelerate at the end to put up a big score on a good batting deck.

Chasing down a target of 150, skipper Virat Kohli ensured that there were no hiccups as India took a 1-0 series. The series will now head to Bangalore, where India will aim to continue their winning streak.

The match in Mohali also saw many records being created as the skippers from both the sides took centre stage. Here we take a look at a few of them:

Kohli’s dominance continues

It was a Virat Kohli masterclass on display in Mohali, with his knock of 72 off only 52 deliveries taking his side home. Before his innings with the bat, he also made a vital contribution on the field with his stunning catch dismissing de Kock. His innings of 72 meant that the Indian captain overtook Rohit Sharma as the highest run-scorer in T20I cricket. He now has 2441 runs in 71 matches. Rohit, on the other hand, has scored 2434 in 97 matches. The innings also took Kohli’s T20I average to 50.85, making him the only cricketer to average over 50 in all the three formats of the game.

Killer Miller reaches 50 with a work of magic!

With his magical catch to dismiss Dhawan inciting a brilliant reaction from Kohli, Miller reached a big milestone. He completed 50 catches in T20I cricket. This made him only the 4th cricketer to accomplish this achievement. He still trails AB de Villiers and MS Dhoni in the most number of catches in the format, while equalling Shoaib Malik’s record. AB de Villiers has 65 catches, while MS Dhoni has 57 to his name.
