IND vs SA: Washington Sundar replaces Deepak Chahar in ODI squad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Washington Sundar as Deepak Chahar’s replacement in India’s ODI squad which is currently hosting South Africa for a three-match ODI series. India is trailing by 0-1 in the series, and Sundar has been added to the squad ahead of the second ODI, which is a critical one for the Men in Blue.

Deepak Chahar did not play the first ODI fixture on Thursday, October 6, and was ultimately ruled out of the remainder of the series on Saturday. Chahar had stiffness in his back after he completed his innings with the bat during the third T20I of the recently concluded series. That was the reason why he missed out of the ODI game as well.

Chahar will now travel to Bengaluru and head back to the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where the medical team will monitor the pacer’s health conditions. India is scheduled to play the remaining two ODIs in Ranchi and Delhi on the 9th and 11th of October respectively. Washington Sundar, who had been out of the international setup owing to his injuries, will mark a return.

The Indian side is led by Shikhar Dhawan as the players who are a part of the main T20 World Cup squad have already reached Australia to begin their training and preparations early. As a result, Dhawan was named the captain of a second-string Indian team which consists of young and fresh faces, and the squad also includes the standby players from the World Cup roster.
