IND-W vs SA-W: 2nd T20I – Talking Points from the nail-biter

After a successful stint in the five-match One Day series by 4-1, South Africa Women continued their dominance on the Indian pitches as they clinched the three-match T20I series too by winning the second T20 International by 6 wickets. The visitors are now leading the series by 2-0 and will be looking forward to making their maiden T20 series win over India more memorable by winning the dead-rubber. The second T20 International was a nail-biting affair as SA won on the last ball. It won’t be wrong to say that the Indian cricketers looked sloppy on the field and their poor fielding cost them the match and the series.

Here are the talking points from the 2nd T20I between India Women and South Africa Women.

Richa Ghosh’s cameo

After the initial hiccups, India Women were successful in posting a defendable score of 158 runs on the board and a lot of credit for the same goes to Richa Ghosh. Richa, who came to bat at Number 5, launched an assault on the opposition bowlers as she hammered a stunning knock of not out 44 runs off 26 deliveries including 8 boundaries at a strike rate of 169.23. Ghosh was the only player from her team to play at such a commendable strike-rate, however, despite all the efforts, the batswoman ended up on the wrong side of the result.

Lizelle Lee’s knock

South Africa had lost their first wicket quite early as Anne Bosch departed to the pavilion in the second over only after scoring just 2 runs. However, the team wasn’t much affected by the dismissal courtesy of the other opening batter Lizelle Lee. The 28-year-old went berserk right from the first ball of the innings as she racked up a scintillating 70 runs off just 45 deliveries. Her knock included a whopping 11 boundaries and 1 maximum at a strike rate of 155.56.

Laura Wolvaardt steers SA to win

Laura Wolvaardt managed to leave a mark as South Africa registered their maiden T20I series win over India. She kept her cool under pressure throughout the final overs of South Africa’s batting innings and made sure to help her team cross the finishing line in a thrilling second T20 International of the three-match series. Coming to bat at Number 4 position, Wolvaardt played an eye-pleasing knock of 53 runs. Laura collected 53 in 39 deliveries with the help of seven boundaries while playing at a strike rate of 135.9. For her match-defining performance, Laura Wolvaardt was adjudged as the Player of the Match.
