India in 2021: Historic highs, disappointing lows

For the Indian team, the year 2021 has been quite an eventful one. The team registered some impressive wins to display their dominance against the toughest of the opponents. With a lot of cricket being played this year, let’s have a look at team India’s journey in 2021.

The Virat Kohli-led side dominated the proceedings against Australia to win the series. After a dismaying outing in the first Test, the team bounced back stronger to win the MCG Test, pull a draw in Sydney, and finally a historic victory at the Gabba.

All format series vs England at home

When England toured India, the hosts outplayed them in all formats. They won the four-match Test series 3-1 and then clinched the T20I series 3-2 against the Eoin Morgan led side. In the ODIs as well India won 2-1.

White ball series against Sri Lanka

The alterative team that was sent to Sri Lanka won the ODI series 2-1 whereas lost the T20Is against the host by the same margin. During the final T20I, the Indian team had to deal with a blow as quite a few players tested positive for the Covid 19 and the management had to field a young team.

WTC Final

After exuding their dominance in the longest format of the game, India made it to the finals of the inaugural World Test Championship. They locked horns against New Zealand for the high-profile game and lost the match by eight wickets.

England Tour

India visited England earlier this year for a five-match Test series against the Joe Root-led side. The first Test resulted in a draw whereas Virat Kohli’s men won the Lord’s Test by a massive margin of 151 runs. England bounced back in the third Test before India secured victory in the fourth Test. The series was halted because of Covid 19 outbreak in the Indian camp.

T20 World Cup

Team India faced a severe disappointment in the 20-over tournament. They lost to Pakistan and New Zealand in their opening fixtures which more or less ended their campaign. Virat Kohli had already stepped down from T20I captaincy. India exited from the group stage after defeating

Historic Centurion Test   

India has toured South Africa in what is a highly anticipated series. The team’s fast bowling unit led the team from the front to restrict the Proteas to a total of 191 runs to win the first Test by 113 runs. With this victory, the team has now breached cricket’s two biggest fortresses in a calendar year.
