India in Cape Town: Heroic efforts but no victories to show

India are currently facing South Africa in the third Test of the three-match Test series. The decider is being played at the picturesque Newlands, Cape Town. The ground is situated at the base of Table mountain. The Indians have a wonderful opportunity of breaking two long-running streaks in one go – 1) India have never won a Test series in South Africa, 2) India have never won a Test in Cape Town.

On that note, here are India’s all the previous Test encounters in South Africa.

Captain Sachin Tendulkar (169) and Mohammed Azharuddin (115) raised an inspired stand of 222 runs which is fondly remembered to date. India still conceded a trail of 170 runs. Making recovery from 12/3, AB de Villiers (65) and Faf du Plessis (62) added 114 runs for the 4th wicket. After posting 286, South Africa had India in trouble at 92/7.
