Pujara dropped, Rahane named deputy

Rohit Sharma will be leading the red-ball squad with Ajinkya Rahane acting as his deputy. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan, Mukesh Kumar and Navdeep Saini are among the new faces in the Test squad. There have been several new additions as compared to India’s World Test Championship side, and shockingly, Cheteshwar Pujara has been dropped.

While the T20I squad is yet to be announced, Rohit will continue to lead the side in the ODIs as the Indian team gears up for the Asia Cup and the all-important World Cup. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar have also found a place in the ODI squad, while Sanju Samson is a notable inclusion. Jaydev Unadkat too has made the cut in both squads.

Since KL Rahul remains out of contention owing to his injury, Hardik Pandya has been named Rohit’s deputy for the ODI series. Notably, Shikhar Dhawan is still a miss in the ODI squad. Suryakumar Yadav, who hasn’t been up to the mark in ODIs, has been included, while Ishan Kishan has made the cut alongside Samson as the wicketkeeping option. The Kul-Cha duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal is back for the ODIs.
