Instances when the top four batters scored a century in a single Test innings
When the top order scores heavily, it becomes easier for the team to post a massive total on the board and gives an advantage in winning that particular match. There have been two instances where the top four players have managed to hit a ton. Not only did all the batters help their team in securing a victory in that game but also created a special feat.
Let’s look at two instances when the top four batters scored a century in a single Test innings:
India vs Bangladesh (2007)
After playing out a draw in the first Test, India and Bangladesh clashed with each other in the second and final Test of the two-match series in the year 2007. Bangladesh won the toss and sent India in to bat first in Dhaka. The visitors piled misery on the Bangla Tigers as they posted a mammoth total of 610/3d in the first innings. Openers Dinesh Karthik and Wasim Jaffer scored 129 and 138 runs respectively, while Rahul Dravid amassed 129 and Sachin Tendulkar an unbeaten 122. All the top four batters smashed centuries as India won the decider by an innings and 239 runs to clinch the series 1-0.
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka (2019)
Pakistan and Sri Lanka also played out a draw in the first of the two-match Test series in the year 2019. The series entered its second and final game in Karachi where the hosts batted first and got bundled out for just 191. Sri Lanka scored 271 in the first innings to take a lead of 80 runs. Pakistan batters then dominated the Lanka Lions as openers Shan Masood and Abid Ali mustered 135 and 174 runs respectively. Skipper Azhar Ali struck 118 while Babar Azam remained unbeaten on 100 as Pakistan notched up 555/3d. The home side won the decider by 263 runs to seal the series 1-0.
