Inzamam-ul-Haq backs Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik

Legendary Pakistan cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq has said that more than dropping a particular player, having a replacement for the player dropped is important. Inzamam also added that the toughest part is to find a replacement for players of the calibre of Shoaib Malik or Mohammad Hafeez.

Inzamam-ul-Haq also added that if there is a suitable replacement for a particular player, then he can be dropped. The 51-year-old also added that Hafeez and Malik have a lot of experience and can guide the other players in the Pakistan cricket team.

“If you have to drop a player, you need to have a replacement for that. Dropping the player isn’t important, having a replacement is important. You had dropped him for this World Cup but you had no replacement ready. Having a replacement is important. Dropping someone from the side is the easiest thing. The hard thing is having a replacement ready for both Malik and Hafeez.

If you have replacement, they will be dropped. If both of them are performing well and the management think that they are important, then you should take benefit from them. They have a lot of experience and will guide other players as well,” said Inzamam-ul-Haq to ARY News.

Performance should be the criteria for picking players: Inzamam-ul-Haq

Inzamam-ul-Haq also opined that there is no such rule which states that a 40-year-old should not be included in the playing XI. Adding that performance should be the criteria while selecting players, Inzamam concluded by stating that if a player is not performing at the age of 25, he should be dropped from the side.

“This is no hard and fast rule that if a player is 40 years old, he should be out of the side. Performance should be the criteria, if you are not performing at the age of 25 you should be dropped,” concluded Inzamam-ul-Haq.

In a career that spanned more than a decade and a half, Inzamam-ul-Haq played 120 Tests and 378 ODIs for the Pakistan cricket team.
