IPL 2020: CSK vs SRH Review – Deflated Chennai register 3rd loss on the trot

The Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their second consecutive match in IPL 2020, beating the deflated Chennai Super Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday. This is the first three-match losing streak for CSK since the 2014 IPL.

After opting to bat first, the unchanged SRH were struggling at 69/4 after 11 overs. But youngsters Abhishek Sharma and Priyam Garg stepped up to propel the team to 164/5, playing out the full quota of 20 overs.

In response, CSK once again got off to the slowest possible start. Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Faf du Plessis and Kedar Jadhav got out with only 42 runs on the board in the ninth over. This is when Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni got together and started rebuilding the innings. But the team fell behind so much in the run-rate that they left too to do much in the last few overs.

The duo tried their best in the end but SRH, despite losing Bhuvneshwar Kumar to injury, hung on and managed to seal the game by seven runs. Abdul Samad was gutsy to bowl the last over, helping the team get over the line.

Turning Point

Garg-Sharma partnership: Well, finally the move to back Priyam Garg paid off for the Sunrisers. It was him and Abhishek Sharma who bailed the team out of trouble with a 77-run partnership in the middle. Garg was instrumental in the stand as he slammed Sam Curran for 22 runs in the 18th over to turn the momentum in SRH’s favour. In the process, he also scored a 23-ball 50 and remained unbeaten till the end.
