IPL 2020: DC vs KXIP Review – Capitals hold their nerve to seal thrilling Super Over

Delhi

The IPL is up and running and how! In just the second match of this season, Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab played out a nail-biting thriller which went to the Super Over. Both teams had the game in the bag at some stage with the KXIP being the closest. But in the end, it was the all-round Marcus Stoinis who trumped the resilience of Mayank Agarwal and DC emerged victorious.

After scoring a sublime 89, Agarwal he went for the glory shot and then DC managed to tie the game. In the Super Over, Kagiso Rabada bowled with menace to restrict KXIP to just three runs and the Capitals eventually won the game. Earlier, it was Stoinis who had smashed 53 off 21 to propel the team to 157/8 from a precarious position of 96/6.

Game-Changing Moments

Stoinis’ day out!

It was the Marcus Stoinis show in Dubai. He smashed seven fours and three sixes en route to his 20-ball fifty which is also the third-fastest for DC in IPL history. He wasn’t done yet and came up with a special effort picking two wickets in the final over to take the game into the Super Over. His figures of 2/29 in three overs were brilliant given DC were a bowler short after Ashwin got injured.

Ashwin magic

In the second innings, it was Ravichandran Ashwin who added a new twist to the match with his two quick wickets. By the end of the over, a lot had happened and the man himself was back in the hut dislocating his shoulder. But in the six balls that he bowled, Ashwin sent Karun Nair and Nicholas Pooran packing to stun the KXIP.

Umpiring error costs KXIP the match

Agarwal was single-handedly taking KXIP over the line with the game going into the final over. But they would have been chasing a run less had the umpire not called a short run wrongly in the 19th over. Replays clearly showed that Chris Jordan’s bat had crossed the line but the square leg umpire adjudged it to be a short run and it eventually cost KXIP the game.
