IPL 2020: Five cricketers in line for IPL debut this season

Indian Premier League is one of the most renowned T20 tournaments across the globe. It acts as a medium for the promising and budding cricketers to shine on the big stage and rub their shoulders with the greats of the game. In each edition of the T20 Championship, we see a few new faces who prove their mettle and go on to play for their country and bag even better contracts.

The much-awaited 13th edition of the cash-rich league is all set to get underway from September 19 to November 10 across three venues namely Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. With the league just a few days away let’s take a look at the players who will be making their debut this year.

5. Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR)

The left-handed batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal can be considered as one of the most promising debutants this season. The all-rounder is in great form as he was the highest run-getter of the U-19 World Cup 2020 with 400 runs in 6 six matches. Yashasvi’s journey from selling pani puri for his survival to being sold at a staggering price of Rs. 2.4 Crore to IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals in 2020 auctions is inspirational and phenomenal. He has till now featured in 13 List A matches smashing 779 runs.

4. Ravi Bishnoi (KXIP)

Ravi Bishnoi is another cricketer to watch out for in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. He made his Twenty20 debut for Rajasthan in the 2018–19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on 21 February 2019. The all-rounder then made his List A debut on 27 September 2019, for Rajasthan in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Seeing his stellar performance in the domestic circuit, IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) picked him at Rs. 2 crores in the auctions. Though Ravi is not expected to feature in all the games of the IPL 2020, it will be a great experience for him to train under veteran Anil Kumble.

3. Priyam Garg (SRH)

Captain of the Indian U-19 Cricket team, Priyam Garg is a product of natural talent and elegance. He made headlines after hitting the Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar for cover drives in a domestic match at a tender age of fifteen. The right-handed batsman will feature in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s squad for 2020 as the franchise shelled out whopping Rs. 1.9 crores for Priyam in the auctions for IPL 2020. Priyam looks promising as he is backed by phenomenal domestic records. In 12 first-class matches and 19 List A matches, the 19-year-old has scored 867 and 707 runs respectively.

2. Sheldon Cottrell (KXIP)

West Indies pace sensation Sheldon Cottrell is among a handful of capped players who will be making their debut this year in the Indian Premier League. The Jamaica-born had shone in the 2019 World Cup in England last year, picking up 12 wickets at 8.25 economy. His great form in international cricket helped him in bagging a fat paycheck of Rs. 8.5 crore by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in 2020 auctions. Till now, the fast bowler has featured in 34 ODIs and 27 T20 Internationals taking 49 and 36 wickets respectively.

1. Alex Carey (DC)

Australia’s left-handed batsman Alex Carey’s heroics at the 2019 World Cup helped him garner a lucrative contract of Rs. 2.4 Crore by Delhi Capitals prior to 13th edition of the glitzy T20 league. Though Australia didn’t win the tournament, the wicketkeeper-batsman emerged as a reliable and versatile player as he scored 375 runs during the 2019 World Cup at an average of 62.50. Carey along with Delhi Capitals will be hoping to repeat the magic in the pitches of UAE to help the franchise win their first-ever T20 title.
