IPL 2020: MI vs SRH Review – Tactical Mumbai register comfortable victory

Mumbai Indians cruised to a victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs in the match 17 of the ongoing IPL. Quinton de Kock finally regained his form scoring 67 off 39 balls after Rohit Sharma got out early. The rest of the batsmen including Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard batted well to propel the team to a good total. However, it was Krunal Pandya’s 20* off just 4 balls that helped MI post 208 runs.

SRH were on the right track in the chase until David Warner and Manish Pandey were batting. But the latter’s wicket sucked the momentum out of their innings and MI bowlers executed their plans really well in the middle overs. Warner was at his best finally but his 60-run knock didn’t get the required support from the other end as SRH finished on 174/7 in 20 overs to lose by 34 runs.

Turning Point

Quinton de Kock back in form – MI lost Rohit early in the first over and needed De Kock to play a good knock. And the South African wicket-keeper didn’t disappoint. He got hold of the conditions first and then played some brilliant strokes to score his first half-century. At one stage it seemed as if De Kock would score a ton. But Rashid Khan got the better of him not before scoring 67 off 39 balls.

Manish Pandey’s wicket in the chase: The chase was on track for SRH with the 60-run stand between Warner and Pandey. The latter was batting well taking calculated risks. However, James Pattinson was brought into the attack. And the Australian didn’t disappoint his skipper picking a crucial wicket of Pandey. This wicket led to the run-scoring dipping for SRH and the pressure on Warner increased.
