IPL 2021 auction: Three cricketers Kings XI Punjab are likely to release

Kings XI Punjab had a strange IPL 2020 where they won only one of their first seven matches and lost five in a row. Soon, they bounced back and stood in the contention for a playoff place by winning five consecutive matches. The Punjab franchise had the Orange Cap holder, KL Rahul as their captain but failed to capitalize on his efforts. With a lot of youngsters in their side, the KXIP team is going to be a team to watch out in IPL 2021. Here we look at the three players who could be left out ahead of the IPL 2021 by Kings XI Punjab:

Karun Nair:

The Kings XI Punjab team have Karun Nair in their squad who was bought for 5.6 crore INR. With a lot of better Indian batting options than Karun in the current squad, the Punjab franchise can leave him out without hesitation. Leaving him out will also save a few bucks for the KXIP to aim for some trending player at the auction. Moreover, Nair hasn’t been at his best in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy with only 81 runs in five games.

Sheldon Cottrell:

A lot of good things were expected from Sheldon Cottrell ahead of the IPL 2020 but the West Indian pacer got sidelined after initial defeats. He went for a lot of runs at the death even after some of the top new-ball spells. As the franchise seems to have lost a bit of trust in the left-arm pacer, they could be seen leaving him out. As Cottrell was bought by them for 8 crores, KXIP could try to buy him back for a lower price.

Glenn Maxwell:

Glenn Maxwell has been pretty ordinary in the IPL except for the 2014 edition that too in the matches hosted by UAE. The 2020 IPL was a pretty poor one for the Australian all-rounder who failed to hit even one six through the season. However, Maxwell has been going alright with both bat and ball in the Australian summer. Leaving out Maxwell will give a chance for KXIP to get him back for a lower price in the auction ahead of the 2021 edition.
