IPL 2021 Auction: Three players franchises are likely to buy back at lower prices

Mujeeb Ur Rahman

A few days back, the IPL franchises had surprised the fans with their choices of retaining and releasing certain players. There were players who had performed decently for their respective teams in IPL 2020 but yet their names will go under the hammer in the upcoming auctions for IPL 2021. However, a few teams can pick their released players again in the auction at a lower price.

This technique has been used by many franchises for years to reduce the expense of a single player and increase their purse limit before going into the auctions. In the article, let’s take a look at three players who can be picked by their IPL franchise once again but at a lower price:

Chris Morris

South Africa’s experienced all-rounder Chris Morris is a great addition to any T20 side across the globe. He was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of IPL 2020 for a staggering amount of INR 10 crore. Though the season was marred with injuries for Morris, he managed to pick up 11 wickets at an average of 19 and economy of 6.63. He also hammered 34 runs with the willow at a strike rate of above 160. Thus, RCB releasing him before IPL 2021 came as a shocker for many. There are high chances that the team will again bid for the all-rounder but will prefer a lower price as he clearly failed to justify his hefty paycheque.

Nathan Coulter Nile

IPL

Mumbai Indians don’t have a good option for the third seamer to join the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult as they released both James Pattinson and Nathan Coulter-Nile. Nathan had a decent season in IPL 2020 as in seven matches he picked 5 wickets while not conceding many runs. However, the pacer failed big time in living up to the expectations and justifying the huge sum of INR 8 crore Mumbai Indians paid for him during the auctions for IPL 2020. Nathan is a decent bowler and Mumbai isn’t known for letting their players go easily. Thus, Nathan can again see himself donning the blue jersey in the Indian league.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have released the Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman who is currently placed at No.2 position in the ICC ODI and T20I bowlers rankings. Mujeeb was picked by KXIP for INR 4.0 crore ahead of the 2018 IPL season. However, he didn’t feature in many games for the franchise as he featured in only seven matches in the 2019 and 2020 seasons combined.

He played three matches in IPL 2020 but went wicketless while in four matches played in IPL 2019, he scalped three wickets. Mujeeb had a great season with Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League 2020-21 and thus it won’t be a surprise in KXIP again bids for the youngster.
