IPL 2021: CSK vs RR Review – Spinners help CSK claim a resounding victory

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings beat Rajasthan Royals in an IPL 2021 match by 45 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. On a good batting wicket, Chennai made 188 and then dominated the Royals entirely in the second innings. CSK spinners struck in the middle overs to eventually win the match by 45 runs.

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson elected to bowl first. Chennai started the innings quite well with Faf du Plessis getting a quickfire 33. Throughout the innings, there were contributions at a good pace. No one went on to get a big score but their handy knocks kept CSK in the game. Moeen Ali made 26, Ambati Rayudu made 27, Suresh Raina got 18, MS Dhoni got 18, Sam Curran made 13 and DJ Bravo finished with an 8-ball 20 to take CSK to 188 for 9.

Chetan Sakariya picked up three wickets while Chris Morris took two scalps. Rajasthan’s start wasn’t quite good with the bat as they lost two wickets in the powerplay. Jos Buttler scored a brilliant 49 off 35 balls and while he was at the crease, it seemed anybody’s game. However, Buttler’s wicket caused a collapse.

Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets each while Moeen Ali starred with a three-wicket haul. Bravo and Shardul Thakur took one wicket each to knock off the Royals’ tailenders. Rahul Tewatia scored 20 and Jaydev Unadkat made 24 but these cameos could only take Rajasthan’s final score to 143.

Turning points:

Buttler’s wicket: When the 12th over started, Rajasthan Royals were batting at 87 for 2. Jos Buttler was taking up the responsibility to finish the chase for them. However, Ravindra Jadeja bowled a perfect ball to dismiss him. This turned the match on its head. Jadeja got another wicket in the same over, before Moeen Ali got three more quickly.

It should be noted that the ball was changed just before that over. The new ball was slightly dry which allowed it to turn, unlike the previous ball which was getting wet with the dew around and making batting easy.
