IPL 2021: KKR vs CSK Preview – Struggling Kolkata face confident Chennai

Kolkata Knight Riders will be running into a very strong and confident Chennai Super Kings line-up at the Wankhede Stadium on April 21. While KKR are struggling to get some balance in their XI, Chennai’s depth in the batting and the bowling makes them look like a more formidable line-up for this match up.

Kolkata is coming into this match, finishing their Chennai leg with a defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Now, they will have their work cut out against Chennai who have won their last two matches on this same surface of the Wankhede. CSK does start as the favourite, but KKR would hope the batting-friendly conditions allow their batters to get back in form.

Team News:

Kolkata Knight Riders: There have been talks around the KKR team management that Sunil Narine will be introduced to the team for the next match. He might take the place of Shakib, who with the bat, hasn’t been as good as KKR might have hoped at the start of the season. If Narine is selected over him, he could also come up the order to open the innings. Harbhajan Singh is likely to sit out this match, with the Mumbai surface not being as helpful for the spinners as the one in Chennai. Shivam Mavi, who is a good death option, will come into the team to reduce Andre Russell’s pressure.

Chennai Super Kings: The strength of Chennai’s batting depth was on full display in their last match against Rajasthan. Despite losing frequent wickets, they maintained the run rate and Dwayne Bravo, coming in at no.9, finished the innings with an 8-ball 20. Moeen Ali and Sam Curran have equally contributed from both the departments and will turn out to be key players for them in this tournament. The only change, which they could bring is that of replacing Robbie Uthappa at the top order in place of Ruturaj Gaikwad, but MS Dhoni seldom changes the winning combination.
