IPL 2021: SRH announce Kane Williamson as their new skipper for the season

Kane Williamson

Sunrisers Hyderabad have appointed New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson as their new captain for the remaining of the Indian Premier League 2021 season. The announcement came after the SRH franchise lost to Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday. According to the statement released by the franchisee, David Warner will stay with the team and help towards the team’s success.

SRH, under David Warner’s captaincy, has won just one match in the six encounters they have played thus far in the tournament. Their only victory came against the Punjab Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With Kane Williamson’s appointment as the new skipper, SRH will aim to turn the tables and get back to winning ways.

SRH’s media release also stated that there will be some important changes in their overseas combination when they take on the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals team on Sunday. David Warner has so far scored 193 runs in six innings in this season.

Kane Williamson missed a few games at the start of this season due to fitness issues. However, his comeback bolstered the SRH line-up. Kane scored a total of 108 runs in three matches so far in the season without getting dismissed. With no burden of captaincy, David Warner would love to give more with the willow going forward in the tournament.

Currently, Chennai Super Kings are leading the points table with Sunrisers Hyderabad reeling at the bottom spot with the wooden spoon. With Kane Williamson’s good batting form and brilliant captaincy skills, fans will hope to see SRH’s change in fortunes.
