IPL 2021: The oldest and the youngest player in the auction

The Indian Premier League is arguably the biggest T20 league in the world. As the 2021 season is about to begin in a few months, the franchises are getting ready to get their ideal squads on paper. Ahead of this season, we will see a mini-auction, happening in Chennai on February 18, 2021. The auction will witness players going under the hammer who are on the radar of all the franchises.

In this season of the IPL auction, there is one interesting thing which has come to the notice of many people. Out of the total 292 players who will be going under the hammer, there is a strange gap between the youngest cricketer in that and the oldest cricketer in that list.

Let us first address the oldest player in the auction. Nayan Doshi, who is the son of the former Indian cricketer Dilip Doshi, is the 42-year-old who has put up his name in the auction. Out of the 1097 players who had initially registered, only somewhere around 300 were shortlisted for the auctions.

Nayan Doshi had made his first-class debut while playing for Sussex in the English county cricket. Eventually, he came back to India and played in the domestic circuit. Here, he was the part of the Saurashtra set-up but unfortunately hasn’t played for them since 2013.

Coming to the youngest cricketer to be shortlisted, it is none other than Noor Ahmad. The 16-year-old left-arm wrist spinner from Afghanistan has been shortlisted after making a lot of news in the T20 franchise scene in the past one year. In 2020, he was selected to play in the Caribbean Premier League to play for St. Lucia Zouks but he failed to make it to the tournament because his visa wasn’t cleared.

But, he finally made an appearance in T20 cricket, when he played for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League 2020-21. He played for that team in just six matches and picked up two wickets. Even though he didn’t find a lot of success in the Big Bash League, he did impress a few experts for his ability to create chances.
