IPL 2022: Aakash Chopra feels Jason Holder can become the RCB captain

The IPL 2022 mega auction is set to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru where all the teams would be looking forward to building the team around their core retained players. The existing eight teams have finalized their mandatory 3-4 retentions well in advance and while most of them have stuck to their respective captains to lead them from the front, three of them are yet to decide on the same with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) being one of the teams.

As Virat Kohli stepped down as captain after the conclusion of the last season, RCB are yet to announce his successor but, cricket pundit Aakash Chopra has recommended West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder’s name to lead the three-time finalists. Giving further clarification on the same, Chopra mentioned that Holder does not impose himself and does his job quietly staying in the background.

“Let me just throw in Jason Holder. Bengaluru has small boundaries, he is an all-rounder, a medium pacer. He is an unassuming character. He doesn’t impose himself, he stays in the background, quietly does his job. I think for a franchise like RCB, he can be the right pick,” said Chopra while interacting on his official YouTube channel.

Holder will play all the matches, says Aakash Chopra

At the same time, the former Indian Test opener also added that being an all-rounder, Holder will get to feature in all the games and as far as his captaincy is concerned, the Barbados player has led the West Indies across all formats before.

“He is an all-rounder, he will play all the matches. He has captained West Indies well. He will not take the center stage. When there is Virat Kohli in the team, there should be a captain who should not be looking for the limelight. He should be happy basking in somebody else’s glory also because Kohli is that towering figure,” Aakash Chopra said.

Jason Holder was released by the 2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad months before the IPL 2022 auctions. Apart from RCB, two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders and 2014 finalists Punjab Kings are yet to announce their captains as well.

Earlier, it was rumored that KL Rahul would be leading the Bengaluru-based franchise before he was roped in by Lucknow for the role after which it was reported that Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell could be given the role.
