IPL 2022: Five contenders for the Orange Cap

Over the years in IPL history, the Orange Cap has been one of the most prestigious honours to the batter who has scored the most runs in the season. Right from Shaun Marsh in the inaugural edition to Ruturaj Gaikwad in the most recent one, the fans have enjoyed watching these batters score tons of runs with excellent consistency and such has been the demands of the tournament. With all those said, let us look into 5 players who can win the Orange Cap.

Shikhar Dhawan:

Shikhar Dhawan has not won the Orange Cap so far which remains a big surprise as he has been very consistent in the last three to four years. The left-hander was bagged up by the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022 mega auction and with the kind of form he has been in the last two to three years, he is bound to win the Orange Cap soon.

Faf Du Plessis:

Faf Du Plessis was recently appointed the captain of his new franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore and he will partner Virat Kohli at the top of the order. The right-hander missed out on winning the Orange Cap last year by just two runs to his then teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad. He will be keen to bag the award this time.

KL Rahul:

KL Rahul

KL Rahul has been phenomenal since the IPL 2018 edition when he moved into the Punjab Kings franchise and has scored the bulk of the runs for his franchise. The right-hander won the Orange Cap in the IPL 2020 edition and has been in the top run-scorers in the last four seasons. Rahul will be plying his trade for the Lucknow Super Giants this year and is among the top contenders to win the orange cap.

Virat Kohli:

Virat Kohli holds the record for the most runs in an IPL season as he hit a record 973 runs in 16 games in IPL 2016 for the RCB franchise. He has been going through a rough patch of form and the upcoming IPL season will be the best platform for him to regain his touch. He will now be relieved from the captaincy duties and is expected to be back at his very best with the bat.

Shreyas Iyer:

Shreyas Iyer has been the in-form batter for India recently in the T20I series against Sri Lanka and he will be captaining the Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming IPL 2022 season. The right-hander will get to bat at his favourite position of No. 3, and he can have a big impact for any franchise at the top. Iyer had a fantastic season in 2020 where he was among the top five run scorers and will be looking to go after the Orange Cap this year.
