IPL 2022: LSG – 3 players to watch out for

New entrants Lucknow Super Giants would be hoping to have a memorable IPL 2022 having made some really important buys at the two-day mega auction in Bengaluru last month. They have appointed KL Rahul as their skipper and have also roped in the likes of star Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, Sri Lankan yorker specialist Dushmantha Chameera, India’s emerging pacer Avesh Khan to name a few.

With a strong squad on paper, LSG would be leaving no stone unturned in bringing out their best this season. Here are three players who they will be banking on in IPL 2022.

Avesh Khan:

Avesh Khan has been bought by the Lucknow Super Giants for INR 10 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction. He was released by the Delhi Capitals despite his career-best performance in the 2021 season.

The promising speedster finished as the second-highest wicket-taker with 24 wickets from 16 matches and had played an instrumental role in DC making the playoffs. The youngster would now be hungry for showcasing more of such outstanding performances.

KL Rahul:

KL Rahul was roped in by the new franchise for a staggering INR 17 crore during the pre-auction deal. He led Punjab Kings in 2020 and 2021 editions and reportedly parted ways with the franchise for better prospects.

Rahul has been one of the consistent batters in the last few years and in fact, he has scored over 500 runs each time since 2018 but more importantly has amassed over 600 runs in the last two editions. The Karnataka cricketer scored 626 runs from 13 matches at a strike rate of 138.80 including six half-centuries.

Quinton de Kock:

Quinton de Kock has been bought by LSG for INR 6.75 crore for the upcoming season. The South African wicketkeeper-batter could only manage 297 runs from 11 matches last season due to which he was released by the Mumbai Indians.

Despite being off-colour last year, de Kock is one of the most accomplished batters in this format. He had amassed 529 and 503 runs in the 2019 and 2020 editions respectively and had also played an instrumental role in MI’s back-to-back title triumphs.

The southpaw would now be looking for a new start as he dons the LSG jersey in a few days time.
