IPL 2022: Prize Money won by the award winners of the tournament

Gujarat Titans became only the second franchise in IPL history after Rajasthan Royals to win the trophy in their very first season of the tournament. Coming into the tournament, not many recognised the new franchise to be potential contenders to win the title, however, they managed to turn the tides with some brilliant performances throughout the season. They finished on top of the points table in the league stages with ten wins in 14 games and continued the momentum into the playoffs as well.

As for the final, Rajasthan Royals won a crucial toss at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and they opted to bat first. However, the decision did not prove to be ideal as they collapsed after a good start to the innings. The top order of Yashashvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler did get off the blocks quickly while Sanju Samson tried to maintain the scoring rate. However, a flurry of wickets in the middle overs saw the Royals reeling at 79 for 4.

Hardik Pandya steps up with bat and ball in all-important finals:

The duo of Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan strangled the opponents with consistent wickets and their economical spell meant that the Royals lost all their momentum with the bat. In the end, they could manage just 130 in the 20 overs, with small contributions from Riyan Parag, Trent Boult and Obed McCoy. Hardik was the pick of the bowlers for the Gujarat side with 3 for 17 while Sai Kishore picked up two wickets as well.

Chasing a relatively low score, the Gujarat Titans were on the back foot straight away after losing Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade quickly. However, the pair of Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya stuck together with a formidable partnership for the third wicket and anchored the run chase quite sensibly. While Pandya got dismissed for a 30-ball 34, David Miller continued the assault from where the former left off and kept the scoreboard ticking from ball one.

In the end, another good partnership between Miller (32*) and Gill was enough to take the Titans home and the latter stayed unbeaten on 45 off 43 balls to hit the winning six as well. Buttler bagged the Orange Cap after a prolific season with the bat while the Chahal won the Purple Cap for the most wickets.
