IPL 2022: RCB vs MI Review – Bangalore consign Mumbai to their 4th defeat

Royal Challengers Bangalore continued their merry run in IPL 2022 with yet another victory, this time against Mumbai Indians in Match 18 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Chasing a target of 152, the RCB side were bolstered by the opening partnership between skipper Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat. Virat Kohli joined the party as well and he played a handy knock of 36-ball 48 as the Rohit Sharma and men succumbed to their fourth consecutive defeat.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians had lost the toss. They did start off well with the bat, putting up a 50-run partnership for the first wicket, but once Rohit was gone, there was a series of wickets reducing them to 79 for 6 in the 14th over mark. Suryakumar Yadav restitched the innings for Mumbai with a stunning 37-ball 68 to take the total past 150 but it wasn’t enough for the star-studded RCB batting lineup, who chased the target with seven wickets in hands.

Top Performers of the game

Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel continued his purple run with the ball and bowled an excellent final over as well, conceding just seven runs. He picked up two wickets for just 23 runs in his quota and took the big wicket of Rohit Sharma, which dented the momentum for the Mumbai Indians side.

Anuj Rawat

Anuj Rawat got some decent starts in the first three games of IPL 2022 but could not capitalise, but he came up with a scintillating performance against the Mumbai Indians as he anchored the run-chase with a 47-ball 66 that included two fours and six sixes.

What next for the two teams

Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on the Chennai Super Kings on April 12 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, while Mumbai Indians will next play the Punjab Kings at the MCA Stadium in Pune on April 13.
