IPL 2022: RR vs MI Review – Rajasthan thump Mumbai to register their 2nd win

Rajasthan Royals registered their second straight victory of the season with an excellent performance against the Mumbai Indians in Match 9 of IPL 2022. So far, the Sanju Samson-led side has been the only team that has been able to defend scores in this tournament and the credit goes to their strong bowling attack.

Mumbai, in a run-chase of 194, were cruising at a stage when youngsters Ishan Kishan (54) and Tilak Varma (61) were batting at the crease. However, once they were gone, Mumbai needed a Kieron Pollard blistering knock to pull off a win, and unfortunately, that was not the case for them.

Royals were outstanding in every phase of the game with the bat and Jos Buttler’s century turned out to a match-winning innings in the end. Contributions from Shimron Hetmyer (35) and Samson (30) helped the side post a huge total and the bowlers stepped up at the right times to ensure yet another victory.

Top Performers of the team

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler brought up his second IPL century. The right-hander has been in scintillating form in the last few seasons of IPL and he took advantage of the powerplay to his liking. He finished with 100 off 68 balls, hitting 11 fours and five sixes and laid the foundation for a big score as well.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal almost got to an IPL hat-trick, however, Karun Nair dropped a catch in the slips and the leg-spinner was deprived of the opportunity. The 31-year-old continued his merry run with the ball and finished with 2 for 26. He picked up Tim David and Daniel Sams on consecutive deliveries and dented Mumbai Indians’ run chase.

What next for the two teams

Rajasthan Royals will head into the Wankhede Stadium for their next game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on the 5th of April while Mumbai Indians will next play the Kolkata Knight Riders on the 6th of April at the MCA Stadium, Pune.
