IPL 2022: Three big names missing from the mega auction

Ben Stokes

The mega auction ahead of the 2022 IPL will be taking place on 12th and 13th February in Bengaluru. The dates have been confirmed and also the list of 590 cricketers has been released. The initial list that contained more than 1,000 cricketers has been filtered by the franchises. However, there are several big names that will not be going under the hammer. Here are three of them.

Chris Gayle

The Universe Boss will not be seen in the upcoming IPL season. The 42-year old is nearing the end of his legendary career. While he is plying his trade in various T20 leagues around the world, the Caribbean superstar has decided to take a break from the IPL. Gayle has not been at his best and his performances at the highest stage have dwindled. In IPL 2021, he featured in 10 matches and could only amass 193 runs. The West Indian has thus made himself unavailable.

Kyle Jamieson

Jamieson

The tall all-rounder from New Zealand had a memorable 2021. He was off to a wonderful start in his Test career. His exploits saw him earning a hefty contract with Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, Jamieson did not enjoy success in the T20 tournament. In nine matches, he claimed as many wickets and was also expensive. The all-rounder will not be a part of this year’s auction. While he has not revealed the exact reason, extended stays in bio-bubble is another plausible reason.

Ben Stokes

The English star all-rounder had taken an indefinite break from cricket last year owing to personal reasons. Stokes did return for the Ashes but his IPL return will take more than a year. He last played with Rajasthan Royals and was not retained by the team ahead of IPL 2022. Stokes has made it clear that he wishes to focus on Test cricket and not take a part in the upcoming IPL.
