IPL 2022: Three players KKR are likely to retain ahead of mega auction

Narine

Several Indian Premier League (IPL) sides are set to undergo a revamp with a mega auction taking place ahead of the 2022 season. All the existing franchises have been asked to submit their retention list by November 30. Notably, each franchise, which took part in IPL 2021, can retain a maximum of just four players out of which only two can be foreign players.

Hence, several teams would be busy brainstorming with the deadline approaching. Meanwhile, it would be interesting to see how Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) retention list would look like. Runners-up of the preceding 2021 season, KKR have several star players in the ranks both local and overseas. Hence, finalizing the retained players won’t be easy for them.

Meanwhile, let’s look at the three players Kolkata Knight Riders can retain ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction:

Shubman Gill

Hailed as the future star of India’s batting line-up, Shubman Gill has done a decent job in IPL so far. Making his debut for KKR in 2018, the right-handed opener has played several impressive knocks for the two-time IPL champions. Although questions have been raised over his big-hitting skills, Gill is improving constantly, and investing in him would be wise for KKR. He can also be named the KKR captain as Eoin Morgan is all but certain to part ways with the side.

Sunil Narine

The mystery off-spinner is nothing short of a captain’s delight in the 20-over format. Be it taking wickets in the powerplay overs or restricting the run flow in the death, Narine can make a mark in every stage of the game. Not to forget, he can also contribute in the batting department. As the Caribbean star has been associated with KKR since 2012, the franchise has all the reasons to retain the southpaw.

Andre Russell

Sunil Narine’s West Indies teammate Andre Russell should be the other name on this list. One of the most destructive batters going around, Russell can take the game away from the opposition within a span of a few deliveries. It also must be noted that the right-arm speedster can regularly complete his quota of four overs.
