IPL 2023 Auction: Final squad of all teams and purse remaining
The ten IPL franchises put up a great fight at the IPL Auction 2023 which concluded in Kochi. The dates and schedule for the tournament have not been announced yet, but after the mind-blowing auction, the excitement has touched the roof. The 16th edition of the IPL auction witnessed records being broken by the T20 World Cup winners from England.
Sam Curran became the highlight of the evening as six franchises got into a bidding war to get the services of the English all-rounder. In the end, it was Punjab Kings who roped him in for a massive INR 18.50 crore, making him the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. It was then Australian player Cameron Green, who snatched the limelight by becoming the second-most expensive player in IPL history.
Green, who had registered at a base price of INR 2 crore, was signed by five-time champions Mumbai Indians for a whopping INR 17.50 crore, winning the bidding war against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals. The next big purchase of the IPL 2023 auction was of England all-rounder and world-cup-winning player Ben Stokes.
Rajasthan Royals, RCB, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Chennai Super Kings went all out for the stylish all-rounder and entered the bidding war. Eventually, CSK ended up signing him for an enormous sum of INR 16.25 crore as he became the franchise’s most expensive buy ever. MI and CSK’s purses almost emptied after their respective purchases of Green and Stokes, but the two champion sides picked up the finest players in one go.
England players ruled the IPL Auction, as SRH went on to sign Harry Brook for INR 13.25 crores, their most expensive purchase across all editions of the tournament. Three franchises, namely RR, RCB, and SRH bid for Harry Brook, who registered himself at a base price of INR 1.5 crore. But the bidding war turned out to be very intense, eventually ending in SRH’s favor.
There were also some shocking and surprising purchases, as Lucknow Super Giants spent INR 16 crore to get the services of Nicholas Pooran. Former PBKS skipper Mayank Agarwal was roped in by SRH for INR 8.25 crore, while there was no fight for Kane Williamson as the Kiwi batter was signed by Gujarat Titans at his base price of INR 2 crore.
Shivam Mavi (INR 6 crore) and Mukesh Kumar (INR 5.5 crore) bagged great deals with GT and Delhi Capitals, while Narayan Jagadeesan, who recently made headlines for breaking records at the Vijay Hazare Trophy, was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 90 Lakhs. Uncapped players Vivrant Sharma (INR 2.6 crore) and Nishant Sindhu (INR 60 lakh) too came under the spotlight when SRH and CSK roped them in.
From the set of players who went unsold in the first round, Delhi Capitals roped in Rilee Rossouw for INR 4.6 crore. KKR got Litton Das and Mandeep Singh while SRH got Akeal Hosein and Anmolpreet Singh. RR went big at the end by getting Adam Zampa, KM Asif, and Murugan Ashwin among known names.
