And we are done with the IPL 2023 Mini auction!

Thank you for being here. We will shortly add the updated squads of all teams.

In the last round, Joe Root was signed by RR and KKR added Shakib Al Hasan to the roster.

Akash Vashisht is another buy from RR, they have been very active in this round. LSG make a dash for Naveen-ul-Haq. Mumbai Indians get Raghav Goyal. Rajasthan take Abdul PA to conclude the auction.

Welcome back to the final leg of the IPL auction. South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw is sold for 4.6 crores to DC. Litton Das joins KKR. Akeal Hosein is bought by SRH and also Anmolpreet Singh. Rajasthan Royals add Adam Zampa to their side. KM Asif also joins RR for 30 lakhs and they also get M Ashwin. KKR bid for Mandeep Singh and get him.

We take a 15 minutes break. The teams shall once again submit the names of the players they can afford to buy in the final phase of the auction.

RR sign up Kunal Rathore for his base price. KKR buy Kulwant Khejroliya for his base price. RCB acquire R Sonu Yadav and CSK add Ajay Mandal to their squad. Punjab buy Mohit Rathee while MI pick up Nehal Wadhera. CSK sign Bhagath Varma and PBKS add Shivam Singh to their roster.

The team owners have clear targets and many small purchases have taken place. GT take in Mohit Sharma. MI add Shams Mulani to their roster. Swapnil Singh joins LSG. KKR buy David Wiese for 1 crore. Nitish Kumar Reddy is now a part of the Orange army for 20 lakhs. Avinash Singh will don the RCB jersey for 60 lakhs.

Naveen-ul-Haq, Jamie Overton, Richard Gleeson have not found any takers. Ireland’s Josh Little has caused a bidding war between Gujarat and Lucknow. LSG back out and Titans take Little for 4.4 crores.

Rajasthan Royals buy Donovan Ferreira for 50 lakhs. Titans buy Urvil Patel for 20 lakhs. MI take up Vishnu Vinod for the base price. PBKS add V Kaverappa to their roster. RCB sign up Rajan Kumar after a bidding war. Netherlands’ Paul van Meekeren is unsold.

A couple of teams were very interested in buying Mayank Dagar and it is Hyderabad who get him. MI add Duan Jansen to their list and LSG take note of Prerak Mankad.

We are back with the accelerated auction. And the first player listed is Piyush Chawla. Mumbai Indians make an opening bid and it is the closing bid. Lucknow sign up Amit Mishra. Harpreet Bhatia joins PBKS for 20 Lakhs. Manoj Bhandage is lapped up by RCB for 20 Lakhs.

We take a long break after a dry set. Only Kyle Jamieson found a bid which was opening and the closing one as he joined CSK. All other pacers went unsold. In 45 minutes time, we will resume the accelerated auction. The franchises will now submit 10 names each from the remaining list of players who will then undergo the hammer.

LSG take Romario Shepherd for his base price. Daniel Sams will also represent the same team. Mohammad Nabi, Wayne Parnell, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham and Dasun Shanaka attract no bids.

5:55 PM

Ireland’s Paul Stirling and SA’s Rassie van der Dussen find no takers. Manish Pandey joins DC for 2.4 crores. RCB add Will Jacks to their squad for a cost of 3.2 crores. Travis Head, Dawid Malan, Mandeep Singh join the list of unsold players.

Three more sets to go before we move into the accelerated auction. The franchises are now after the missing pieces in their squad and they have to deal with their limited budget.

We have another surprise buy! Mukesh Kumar, who took 6/40 for India A against Bangladesh A, has ignited a bidding war. Both DC and PBKS wanted him desperately, however, DC emerge the winners at 5.5 crores.

Chintal Gandhi, M Ashwin, S Midhun and Shreyas Gopal get no bids. Himanshu Sharma is sold to RCB for 20 lakhs.

Shivam Mavi! Year after year, the pacer generates a lot of heat at the auction and this year is no exception. KKR tried to buy back their former pacer but Gujarat Titans had their eyes set on him. They bag him for 6 crores.

The franchises know their targets and we are moving swiftly past the players who are not on anyone’s list. Vaibhav Arora was lapped up by KKR for 60 lakhs. LSG signed up Yash Thakur for 45 lakhs.

5:05 PM

The uncapped wicketkeepers did cause a stir but nothing as compared to the earlier frenzy. List A world record holder N Jagadeesan joined KKR for 90 lakhs. KS Bharat was signed up by GT for 1.2 crores. Upendra Yadav was pocketed by SRH for his base price.

5:00 PM

A slow-moving category with the exception of Vivrant Sharma who caused a bidding war between SRH and KKR. SRH eventually added him to their side for 2.6 crores. They also pocketed Sanvir Singh and Samarth Vyas for their base price. CSK pouched Nishant Sindhu for 60 Lakhs to claim the final buy of the seventh set.

We are back and uncapped Indian players are up for grabs. Anmolpreet Singh, LR Chetan, Shubham Khajuria, Rohan Kunnummal and Himmat Singh find no buyers. Shaik Rasheed joins CSK for 20 lakhs.

Overseas spinners remain an unpopular category in IPL auctions. Only Adil Rashid earned a bid which was at his base price. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, T Shamsi, Adam Zampa and A Hosein went unsold.

It is the time for fast bowlers. Chris Jordan and Adam Milne went unsold. Jaydev Unadkat (LSG), Ishant Sharma (DC) and Jhye Richardson (MI) went for their base price. Reece Topley was pocketed by RCB for 1.9 crores.

We are through the third set. Nicholas Pooran caused havoc as Lucknow broke the bank to sign him. He commanded a price of 16 crores. Heinrich Klaasen was bought by SRH for 5.25 crores. Tom Banton and Kusal Mendis found no takers whereas Phil Salt joined DC for 2 crores.

After a small break, we are back for the next set. This includes overseas wicketkeepers. The first player out for bidding is Litton Das who finds no takers.

Just to recap, three of the most expensive players in IPL auction history belong to the frantic last 30 minutes.

Sam Curran to Punjab Kings – 18.5 crores

Cameron Green to Mumbai Indians – 17.5 crores

Ben Stokes to Chennai Super Kings – 16.25 crores

It’s another fierce battle, we can’t get enough of these today! Ben Stokes is up for auction and Rajasthan Royals are fighting tooth and nail for him. Lucknow swoop in and Chennai is also interested. And Chennai takes home the bid for a price of 16.25 crores. We are done with the second set, phew.

We have another mega buy and it is for the Australian all-rounder – Cameron Green. The tall and talented cricketer will now don the Mumbai Indians jersey for a price of 17.5 crores – the second-highest bid in IPL auction history.

Another heated round of bidding saw Rajasthan Royals signing up Jason Holder. Australia’s promising all-rounder Cameron Green is now up for auction and we have already reached 12 crores!

We are moving in quickly now. Gujarat Titans lapped up West Indian all-rounder Odean Smith for his base price of 50 lakhs. Punjab Kings added Sikandar Raza to their roster for the same price. Up next – Jason Holder.

And there we go! Punjab Kings sign Sam Curran for a whopping price of 18.50 crores – The Highest bid in IPL auction history!

As expected Sam Curran’s bid has heated up the auction room. Mumbai Indians are fighting for him with Rajasthan Royals and none seem to back down. The bidding has crossed 12 crores as Chennai Super Kings join the fun. Now the bid is toggling between Punjab Kings and CSK.

We are back. Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is first out of the bag. None of the franchises is interested in his services.

Sam Curran is up for bidding. It’s a tussle between RCB and MI.

Chennai Super Kings snap up Ajinkya Rahane for his base price. Joe Root finds no takers – the first unsold player of this auction. South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw joins Root in the list.

The first set has ended. The upcoming set will be a blockbuster one with overseas all-rounders joining the action.

Mayank Agarwal is up next. And Sunrisers have jumped in at a price point of 4 crores. They are fighting fiercely with Chennai Super Kings. The bidding has crossed 8 crores. Hyderabad make another big buy.

This is going out of the hands now. Rajasthan Royals are on a hot pursuit of Harry Brooks with Hyderabad competing. Brook’s value has reached over 11 crores!

And Sunrisers Hyderabad take him for 13.25 crores. That was a wild beginning to the proceedings.

Up next is Harry Brook – Man of the series for England’s historic Test series win in Pakistan. It’s a bidding war between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The price point has reached 4 crores. Sunrisers Hyderabad have also jumped in with the bidding value flying over 9 crores.

New Zealand’s Kane Williamson is the first person out of the bag. Only Gujarat Titans show any interest and they get KW for his base price of 2 crores. FIRST BUY OF THE DAY!

We will be starting the auction with the first set. Here are the players who are included in Set 1.

Set 1 (Batters): Mayank Agarwal (Rs 1 cr), Harry Brook (Rs 1.5 cr), Ajinkya Rahane (Rs 50 lakh), Joe Root (Rs 1 cr), Rilee Rossouw (Rs 2 cr), Kane Williamson (Rs 2 cr).

The coverage has begun with BCCI treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal addressing the officials and the team owners in attendance.

We are minutes away from the IPL auction. The teams are getting ready, the owners are finalising their strategies and the fans are busy catching up on all the action.

11:30 AM

We are now three hours away from the auction. All eyes will be on Ben Stokes, Sam Curran and Cameron Green. These overseas all-rounders are bound to cause a bidding war. From the Indian contingent, Mayank Agarwal will be a prized possession.

England and Australia have declared their player availability and despite the Tests scheduled, they shall be available for the IPL. West Indies and New Zealand cricketers shall also be present for the duration of the season. Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan cricketers may miss out on a few games due to their international commitments.

The auction day is finally here! After the frantic 2-day mega auction of last year, we will be witnessing a mini-auction for IPL 2023 in Kochi, Kerala. All 10 teams and their owners will be bidding to fill up the maximum of 87 remaining slots. A total of 405 players have been shortlisted for this event today (23rd December).
