IPL 2023: Avesh Khan reprimanded for aggressive helmet celebration

After Lucknow Super Giants’ thrilling victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 10, ace pacer Avesh Khan celebrated the same in an aggressive manner and has been reprimanded for doing so. Khan celebrated by throwing his helmet on the ground, which is a level one offence, and has been punished for the same.

A statement from IPL confirmed the same in which they stated that Avesh has accepted the sanction and has been reprimanded for breaching the code of conduct.

“Lucknow Super Giants’ Avesh Khan has been reprimanded for breaching the Code of Conduct. Mr. Avesh admitted to level 1 offence 2.2 of IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” an IPL statement read.

Notably, Lucknow needed one run to win the match in the final delivery but Khan failed to make any connection. The ball went straight to wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, who eventually failed to grab it as Avesh and Ravi Bishnoi completed a single to help Lucknow register their third win and moved to the top of the IPL Points Table.

Faf du Plessis fined for slow over-rate

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis was fined INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate during Lucknow’s chase. The home team missed the mark by just one over and thus, was allowed to field only four players outside the circle in the final over of the game. Notably, this was RCB’s first slow over-rate offence in IPL 2023.

On the other hand, this was RCB’s second defeat of the season and things are not looking good for them. Defending 212 runs against LSG, the home side got a perfect side as Mohammed Siraj and Wayne Parnell were brilliant with the new ball. However, they lost momentum in the middle overs and Marcus Stonis and Nicholas Pooran completely changed the complexion of the match with their ferocious batting. Thus, in order to change their fate this time around, the Faf du Plessis-led side needs to work on their death bowling immediately.
