IPL 2023: Faf du Plessis completes 4000 runs in the tournament

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis completed 4000 runs in the history of the Indian Premier League. The South Africa international played 128 matches to achieve the milestone, and notably, he is also the IPL Orange Cap holder in the ongoing season.

Meanwhile, under his able leadership, RCB qualified for the IPL playoffs in the 2022 edition and has a decent chance to go through this season as well. The 38-year-old is leading by example, and given his experience, du Plessis can very well take his team to the knockout stages. However, in order to do so, the three-time finalists will have to register a win in the ongoing match against Rajasthan Royals and their upcoming games against Sunrisers Hyderabad (May 18) and Gujarat Titans (May 21).

The legendary career of Faf du Plessis in the IPL

Chennai Super Kings signed Faf du Plessis in the year 2012, and in his debut season, the opener smacked 398 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 130.92. He represented the franchise for ten long years, scoring 2935 runs in the process. He has been tremendous for the franchise, helping them win three champions during his time. In the year 2021, when CSK won their fourth title in history, du Plessis smashed 633 runs in 16 matches and finished second in the IPL Orange Cap race.

Looking at his incredible performance and fitness, CSK wanted to sign him back in the 2022 IPL mega auction. However, Royal Challengers Bangalore paid INR 7 crore for him, which CSK couldn’t match. Soon after getting him on board, Bangalore announced him as their next skipper, and so far, he has done a tremendous job for the franchise.

The Pretoria-born cricketer played 16 matches for RCB in the 2022 edition, scoring 468 runs in the process. In 2023, he has already crossed that mark and is playing some sensational brand of cricket. If the cricketer keeps up with the same form, RCB would hopeful of their chances this season.
