IPL 2023: Gujarat Titans SWOT Analysis

Defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL)- Gujarat Titans appear terrific on paper following the action-packed mini-auction which took place in December. The franchise will begin their title defence against four-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Having roped in seven players to complete the 25-member squad in the auction, Hardik Pandya and Co. will be satisfied to head to the IPL with a formidable team. On that note, let’s have a look at the SWOT analysis-

Strengths

The 2022 squad already seemed as if they had little to no weak links. This was part of the reason why the team succeeded in the last edition. Additionally, the team playing like a unit is what helped them clinch the title. With the likes of Kane Williamson and K.S. Bharat included in the squad, Gujarat boasts a terrific batting line-up. Furthermore, Alzarri Joseph, Rashid Khan, and Mohammed Shami coupled with the new picks such as Mohit Sharma, Joshua Little and Shivam Mavi make it a fairly balanced squad which they can capitalize upon.

Weaknesses

There are not too many weak links in the squad and also the management addressed most of it in the auction. However, an Indian experienced spinner in the unit would surely impact the side considering the turning tracks. However, Rashid Khan’s form could make up for it.

Opportunities

Irish pace sensation Joshua Little will make his debut in the IPL for the Titans this edition. While he relished a magnificent season with Ireland in the T20 World Cup in Australia, he will be put to test in the Indian conditions. Furthermore, Kane Williamson has plenty of experience in the IPL. Bolstering the squad with Williamson only make the side more lethal. The new picks will look to make maximum use of the opportunity and put their best foot forward.

Threats

Considering that they play in multiple venues unlike the previous season, undoubtedly players will feel lethargic at one point. However, the management will need to address this issue in the latter stages of the tournament. Furthermore, this could also be a great chance for skipper Hardik Pandya to defend titles on the trot. However, CSK and MI will not make it easier for the Titans this season.
