IPL 2023: LSG vs DC Review – Mark Wood’s fifer tears Delhi batters apart

Indian Premier League 2023 paced up further with Lucknow Super Giants beating Delhi Capitals by 50 runs in the third match on Saturday, April 1. Kyle Mayers smashed 73 off 38 on his debut for the Capitals to post a big 193/6 total while batting first. Then Mark Wood picked five wickets to guide the Super Giants to a big win.

Young pacer Chetan Sakariya gave the Capitals a positive start with Rahul’s big wicket in the fourth over who scored just eight runs. But Mayers and Deepak Hooda pulled off a 79-run stand for the second, with the latter contributing just 17 runs. Mayers pulled off a quick fifty as he kept the scoreboard moving despite some impressive spells from Lucknow bowlers in the middle overs.

Axar Patel bowled out Mayers in the 12th over to add some pressure on the Super Giants. But debutant Nicholas Pooran continued the momentum by smashing 36 off 21. Ayush Badoni ended the innings by adding quick 18 runs to help his team post a big total. Khaleel Ahmed and Sakariya took two wickets each, but debutant pacer Mukesh Kumar ended with a costly spell.

Prithvi Shaw and Warner gave the Capitals a promising start with a quick 41-run partnership, but Mark Wood changed the momentum with Shaw and Mitchell Marsh’s wicket on the back-to-back deliveries in the fifth over.

Warner kept the scoreboard moving but the Capitals lost the wickets from one end. They struggled for meaningful partnerships despite Warner scoring 56 off 48. Wood returned with two more wickets in the last over to restrict the Capitals for just 143/9.

The West Indies batting all-rounder opened the innings with KL Rahul in the absence of Quinton de Kock and made a big impact to prove his worth.
