IPL 2023: LSG vs SRH Preview – SA players arrive for a spicy encounter

Lucknow Super Giants will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in their second home game of the season at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, April 7. KL Rahul’s side could not continue their winning run in their second match of the season as they were comfortably beaten by Chennai Super Kings in Chepauk.

While the batters, especially Kyle Mayers, put up a valiant fight after registering his second successive half-century of the tournament, LSG bowlers conceded too many freebies in the first innings. Meanwhile, their batting line-up will be strengthened by the return of Quinton de Kock, who has shown terrific form with the bat for the national team.

Coming to their opponents, Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Orange Army, were comprehensively beaten by Rajasthan Royals in their opening game but will be buoyed by the return of skipper Aiden Markram. The Proteas star, who has been in rollicking form in white-ball cricket will provide much-needed stability in the middle order. His compatriots Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen will also be available for selection for today’s game.

Pitch and conditions

The last match at this venue witnessed the team batting first enjoy their time in the middle. While the pitch does have something on offer for the pacers, it will be hard to stop a batter once they get their eyes on this surface. The team winning the toss at the venue will prefer to bat first in the contest, thus bucking the chasing trend.

Last T20 match at the venue: LSG- 193/6 (20 overs) | DC- 143/9 (20 overs)

Probable playing XI for Lucknow Super Giants vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (LSG vs SRH IPL 2023):

Lucknow Super Giants:

It is a bit of a headache for the LSG team management as they have to try and fit in Quinton de Kock in the starting line-up even though his replacement, Kyle Mayers, has been in sensational form with the bat at the top of the order. The management will have to take a tough call.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

While Aiden Markram’s return is a big boost for the Hyderabad-based outfit, the bowlers will need to step up to the plate against a star-studded batting line-up of LSG. They might be tempted to bring in Marco Jansen. The tall left-arm pacer is also tonk a few sixes.
