IPL 2023: Most wickets by uncapped bowlers

Over the years the Indian Premier League has witnessed several players emerge from anonymity to stake a claim in the illustrious league. The 16th edition of the tournament was no different as several relatively unknown fast bowlers captivated fans and experts with their skills on the biggest platform of all. On that note, we list the uncapped bowlers with the most wickets in this year’s edition.

13 – Yash Thakur (Lucknow Super Giants)

Lucknow Super Giants qualified for the playoffs for a second season running thanks to an all-round display by their players. Krunal Pandya’s side had a plethora of fast bowling options at his disposal, but it was the 24-year-old pacer Yash Thakur who shone the brightest for his franchise. The young pacer, who came into the tournament on the back of just 13 first-class matches, impressed on an all with his brisk pace and tenacity with the ball.

14 – Akash Madhwal (Mumbai Indians)

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians, who were without star pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the 16th edition of the tournament, received another setback after English pacer Jofra Archer left for his country mid-way through the tournament after sustaining a niggle. The already under-fire Mumbai’s pace department found a hero in Akash Madhwal, an engineer, who was playing tennis ball cricket a few years ago. The right-arm pacer became an overnight sensation after dismantling Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator, returning with mind-boggling figures of 5/5 on the night.

21 – Tushar Deshpande (Chennai Super Kings)

Chennai Super Kings headed into the 16th edition of the tournament on the back of a few injury concerns in their bowling department. 28-year-old pacer entered the arena after becoming the first Impact Player in the competition’s history. While he did not have the desired impact in his first outing, the express pacer grew in confidence as the tournament progressed, displaying tremendous improvements, finishing with 21 wickets in his debut season, the most by an uncapped player in the history of the competition.
