IPL 2023: Three released players who may go unsold

Cricket can be a cruel game at times and despite having some phenomenal records over the years, the players might go unsold. The best example of it is Suresh Raina who failed to get picked in the mega auction last year and went unsold. The same could happen for any legendary players and after the retentions. On that note, let us look at 3 released players who may go unsold in the IPL 2023 auction.

Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane was a name that not many would have thought about releasing few seasons back, however, his recent performances do not inspire much confidence. With loads of experience, scoring 4074 runs at 158 games at an average of 30.9, Rahane was seen as one of the reliable players. However, his IPL form has gone down considerably since the 2018 edition and was released by KKR after the 2022 season. He scored just 133 runs in seven innings at an average of 19 and a poor strike rate of 103. Given that, he is likely to go unsold despite his IPL numbers.

Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch has been around in the IPL for a long time, but he has not been able to replicate his performances in T20Is into the cash-rich tournament despite playing for many franchises. The right-hander has got the potential to play the big shots but has had constant troubles against the new ball in the powerplay have played a part in his decline at the international level as well as the IPL. He scored just 86 runs in five innings for KKR in the 2022 season and was released by the franchise.

Jason Roy

Jason Roy has endured a tough period in recent times in international cricket and has not been the same destructive batter he was. The right-hander was picked up in the mega auction for his base price last year of INR 2 crore by the Gujarat Titans but he decided to opt out of the season citing personal issues. That will be a big factor especially after a lot of England players pulled out of IPL due to fatigue and Roy might not get a franchise in the upcoming auction.
