IPL Auction 2023: 3 players who went unsold shockingly

The IPL 2023 auction turned out to be an interesting affair. The bidding war between teams to get the top overseas players was worth watching. The tussle between the teams led to the players making the most out of it. It resulted in Sam Curran becoming the most expensive player in the history of IPL as he was sold at INR 18.50 crore.

His teammates Harry Brook and Ben Stokes too attracted big deals as they were roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings for INR 13.25 crore and INR 16.25 crore respectively. But some notable names went unsold at the auction this year as the players found no bidders. Let us look at three prominent players who went unsold.

3. Jimmy Neesham

The New Zealander, who represented Rajasthan Royals in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League, went unsold at the IPL 2023 auctions. Neesham even declined the central contract in a bid to participate in franchise-based leagues, meaning he was available for the entire duration of the IPL 2023. But he could not find himself a new team.

2. Daryl Mitchell

The all-rounder has been in great form recently in the white-ball formats of the game. Even at the T20 World Cup, he played some crucial knocks to take his team to victory. His overall numbers in the T20 format have also been good. Thus, it was shocking to see none of the ten teams willing to get him to their side as he went unsold.

1. Dawid Malan

This was the biggest shocker of the IPL 2023 auction. The former World No. 1 T20I batter failed to attract any bidders at the auction and went unsold. While everyone thought there would be a bidding war for Malan as his T20 numbers speak volumes for his potential, the 35-year-old power-hitter failed to make his place in IPL 2023.
