IPL Final 2023: What will happen if summit clash washes out?

Following the resounding win against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2, Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) stormed into the IPL final and will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday, May 28, at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Notably, Hardik Pandya and Co. cemented their berth in their second final on the trot and will cash in the title against four-time champions CSK. Not just the two heavyweights but also the fans present at the venue and the viewers following the final will hope to witness a full-fledged game.

However, it is worth mentioning that the venue in Ahmedabad witnessed spells of showers just prior to the Qualifier 2 clash between Gujarat and Mumbai. With the summit clash to be played at the same venue on Sunday, we take a look at the conditions stated by the IPL management if the CSK vs GT Final match is washed out.

What will happen if CSK vs GT Final washes out?

As per the weather projections by ‘AccuWeather’, the ambience is likely to witness 56% cloud cover and a 61% probability of showers in the evening. ‘BBC Weather’ projects that the weather is likely to remain breezy coupled with 48% humidity during the time of the Final.

Assuming the unfortunate scenario occurs, which is if the game is affected by the presence of the rain gods, a reserve day is made available, which will be played on the following day on 29th May starting at 8.00 pm. Furthermore, an additional 120 mins of extra time has been allotted on the reserve day.

In addition to this, the number of overs, if necessary, will be reduced so that each team will have the opportunity to bat at least five overs. The cut-off time for the summit clash will be 12.26 am for five-over per side game.

If the match has started (with at least a ball bowled) on the original day (May 28), the game will be completed on the subsequent day (May 29). As per the rules, the contest will resume where it stopped on the previous day.

Assuming that the toss takes place on the stipulated day (May 28) and is followed by no possible play, then a new 20-over per side match will begin on the reserve day with a fresh toss. In addition to this, teams will be allowed to change their side. In the event that even a five-over-per-side match cannot happen, a Super Over can start at the latest by 1.20 am for the final.
