IPL: Highest totals in tournament’s history

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is well underway, and with the marquee tournament’s return also came explosive performances. With many batters amassing many runs on the board, there have been several games that have seen a huge total posted on the board.

The same has been the culture of the tournament for quite a few years now. Over the years, there have been many teams that have posted huge totals on the board, and continuing upon the same, let us have a look at the top three highest totals from the IPL.

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore 248/3 vs Gujarat Lions (2016)

Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Gujarat Lions in the 44th game of IPL 2016. Batting first, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers scored brilliant centuries for their side. Kohli amassed 109 runs in 55 deliveries while de Villiers got 129 in just 52 balls as Bangalore posted a whopping 248 after the first innings before winning the game by 144 runs.

2. Lucknow Super Giants 257/5 vs Punjab Kings (2023)

The 38th game of IPL 2023 saw Lucknow Super Giants take on Punjab Kings. LSG put in a batting performance for the ages as Kyle Mayers scored a brilliant half-century (54 off 24) Ayush Badoni got 43 off just 24, Marcus Stoinis 72 off 40 and Nicholas Pooran topped it off with a 19-ball 45. By the end of the first innings, Lucknow had posted 257 and eventually won by 56 runs.

1. Royal Challengers Bangalore 263 vs Pune Warriors (2013)

Royal Challengers Bangalore etched their name in the IPL history in 201 as legendary Windies batter Chris Gayle dominated and amassed a whopping 175* runs to his name in 66 deliveries against a hapless Pune Warriors India. Furthermore, through short cameos by Tilakratne Dilshan and AB de Villiers, Bangalore posted 263 runs, which remains the highest total in the tournament’s history to date.
