IPL: Most golden ducks

No batter would ever want his innings with the bat to end early, aetting out on a first ball is the last thing a player would want while batting in any particular format. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), a few of the cricketers have registered the unwanted record of getting dismissed on the very first ball that they faced as they feature in this article.

Let’s take a look at the players with the most golden ducks in the history of the IPL (Top 2):

2. Virat Kohli, Sunil Narine, Harbhajan Singh (7)

The trio of Virat Kohli, Sunil Narine, and Harbhajan Singh are all tied in the second position for registering the most number of first-ball dismissals (seven each) in the IPL. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s former skipper Kohli has scored 6903 runs in 222 innings with ten ducks overall. Out of this, seven have been golden ducks. Interestingly, his three first-ball dismissals have come on the same date- April 23 (in 2017, 2022, and 2023).

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Narine has scored 1038 runs in 93 innings with seven golden ducks. He is also on joint-top with Dinesh Karthik and Mandeep Singh for most ducks overall (15) in the league. Harbhajan Singh, who has played for KKR, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Mumbai Indians (MI), has amassed 833 runs in 90 innings. Overall, he has been dismissed for naught 13 times in his IPL career.

1. Rashid Khan (10)

Afghanistan’s spin wizard Rashid Khan has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT) so far in the IPL. He holds the unwanted record for the most golden ducks (ten) in the cash-rich league. The right-handed batter has mustered 324 runs in 45 innings. Overall, Rashid has failed to open the account on 12 occasions along with former KKR and Delhi Capital’s skipper Gautam Gambhir. Notably, he won the title with GT in the 2022 edition.
