IPL: Most runs by No 5 batter

The Indian Premier League has seen several batters over the years who have put on sensational performances for their teams. While some players go berserk at the top, others have the job of building the innings in the middle order and some have the responsibility of adding crucial runs at the death.

The role of a middle-order batter is extremely crucial in T20 cricket as they save the team from a collapse if some early wickets fall. The IPL has seen numerous legendary batters batting at no. five positions and do wonders for their teams. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three batters with the most runs at the five position:

3. Dinesh Karthik (1345 runs)

The wicketkeeper-batter has been a part of the competition since its inception in 2008 and has played for several franchises in his 15-year-long career. His breakthrough season came in 2013 as he scored 510 runs in the season. He has scored 1345 runs at no. 5 and produced several memorable finishes for his side.

2. David Miller (1607 runs)

David Miller built his reputation as an X-factor player with his knock of 101* off 38 balls playing for KXIP against RCB and helped his side pull off an improbable chase. Since then, the southpaw has been a regular performer in the tournament and has taken down several oppositions on his day. He has scored 1607 runs batting at no. 5 and is the second-highest run-scorer at the position.

1. MS Dhoni (1949)

Arguably the greatest finisher in the history of the IPL, MS Dhoni has proved his finishing prowess time and again and bailed CSK out of trouble on a number of occasions. The Captain Cool had his best season in 2018 when he scored 455 runs in 16 matches at an average of 75.83. Dhoni has scored 1949 runs at no. 5 and is the most prolific batter in the batting position.
