IPL: Most runs in powerplay overs

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is up and running and for the next 54 days, fans will cherish the action-packed clashes which include 18 double-headers every weekend. Since the inception of the league, numerous players have pushed themselves to have created and break records. Speaking about the batters, scoring in the first few overs of the contest can prove to be quite tricky however, taking into the field setting, some players have scored massive runs in the league. On that note, we look at the top three players with the most runs scored in powerplay-

3. Chris Gayle | 2373 runs

Caribbean hitter Chris Gayle was known for his extraordinary hitting skills. His claim to fame came when he joined RCB in 2011. Throughout his stint in the IPL, Gayle hammered massive runs and created multiple records individually. The batter has the third most runs scored in the first six overs of the powerplay with 2373 at an average of 37.08 and strike rate of 134.8.

2. David Warner | 2896 runs

Another explosive hitter, Australia’s David Warner holds the record for the second most runs scored in the powerplay. The batter has aggregated a plethora of runs during his stint with SRH, DC among other franchises he has played for. With 2896 runs at an average of 44.65 and a strike rate of 137.5, the batter is second behind veteran batter Shikhar Dhawan on the list of most runs scored in the powerplay.

1. Shikhar Dhawan | 3157 runs

Topping the charts, Dhawan leads the way with the most runs scored in the first six overs. The flamboyant southpaw took into account off-the-field placements to his advantage and often got the big runs. The batter has scored a record 3157 runs at an average of 37.14 and a strike rate of 122.2 in powerplays. He will look to ply his trade for Punjab Kings and continue to get the big scores in the powerplay.
