IPL: Most sixes by a player in a single edition

The Indian Premier League witnessed a whopping 1062 sixes in 2022 season, the most in a single edition of the tournament thus far. The previous record was 872 sixes in the IPL 2018, but the IPL 2022 went way past the landmark as two new teams were added this time.

Hitting boundaries excites the batters as much as their half-centuries and centuries excite them, and there are a few batters who have aced the art over the years.

Let us have a look at the most sixes by a player in a single edition of the IPL-

Jos Buttler, 45 sixes in 2022

The Englishman, who represented Rajasthan Royals in the recently concluded IPL 2022, smashed 45 sixes. He ended his stint with a total of 863 runs this season while opening with the bat for the Men in Pink, and smacked four half-centuries and as many tons in 17 matches. He hit the highest number of sixes this season and ended as the highest run-scorer of the tournament too.

Andre Russell, 52 sixes in 2019

Andre Russell

Andre Russell made his IPL debut in the year 2012 for Kolkata Knight Riders and has been with the side ever since. He has played the finisher’s role for the side to perfection and has been the all-rounder that a team requires. He has provided the team with numerous crucial knocks and some lethal bowling spells. In the year 2019, he hit 52 sixes in total, making it the most by any player in that edition as he played at an amazing strike rate of 204.81, his personal best in IPL across seasons.

Chris Gayle, 59 sixes in 2012 and 51 sixes in 2013

The Caribbean power-hitter tops the list with 59 sixes in one single edition of the IPL. Gayle achieved the feat in the year 2012 when he used to represent the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Gayle clobbered a total of 733 runs that season, which included seven half-centuries and an unbeaten ton. He performed some similar heroics in the next season, that is the IPL 2013 when he smashed 51 sixes for RCB. Making a total of 708 runs that season, Gayle had four half-centuries and an unbeaten ton to his name.
