IPL: Top three Oldest captains

With the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 well underway, it is quite clear that the tournament has been around for quite some time. Over the years, the competition has seen a plethora of captains feature and lead their sides to many memorable victories.

During their stints as skippers, there were some who did not have as long of tenure; however, there were many others who were known for their longevity. Continuing upon the same, let us have a look at the top three oldest captains in the history of the IPL.

Adam Gilchrist

Ace Australian keeper batter Adam Gilchrist has been one of the oldest players to lead a team in the IPL. Leading Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the 2013 IPL, Gilchrist was 41 years and 185 days old. Playing 80 matches throughout the course of his IPL career, Gilchrist amassed 2069 runs to his name.

Shane Warne

The late Australian legend Shane Warne sits in second place on the list of the oldest captains to feature in the IPL. Leading Rajasthan Royals in the 2011 IPL, Warne was 41 years and 249 days old. Being one of the greatest spinners in the history of the sport, Warne played 55 matches in the tournament, where he scored 198 runs to his name, furthermore, he also took 57 wickets. He also led Rajasthan to their only IPL title in the inaugural season.

MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni sits at number one on the list of the oldest captains in the IPL. Leading the four-time champions in the IPL 2023, Dhoni is 41 years and 306 days old, which makes him the oldest captain in the history of the tournament. Under his leadership, Chennai have gone on to win the title four times.
