‘It was a personal choice’ – Harbhajan’s wife Geeta Basra on quitting acting after her marriage

Harbhajan & Geeta Singh

Harbhajan Singh’s Geeta Basra has revealed the reasons why she didn’t return to acting after tying the knots with the veteran Indian cricketer. Back on October 29, 2015, the couple got married at the Cabanna Hotel, which is 17.5 km away from Jalandhar- Harbhajan’s place of birth.

In 2016, the duo gave birth to their first child and named her Hinaya Heer Plaha. Back in March, Harbhajan and Basra announced the latter’s pregnancy with adorable posts on social media. As far as quitting acting is concerned, the 37-year-old Basra called it a “personal choice” and has no regrets for the same.

Even as she urged other women to follow their passion wholeheartedly, she also said that embracing motherhood has brought a whole lot of joy to her. However, she hasn’t ruled out chances of making a comeback on the silverscreen.

I’ve loved every moment of being with Hinaya: Geeta Basra

I have grown up with a working mum, who has raised her family so well… Whatever we have today is because of her. I take that as my inspiration. I don’t think women should give up on any of their passions,” Basra was quoted as saying to Pinkvilla.

Being a mother is the most rewarding and fulfilling role I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve loved every moment of being with Hinaya. It was a personal choice that I didn’t want to work… I was enjoying motherhood so much, and enjoying her milestones, and making sure that I’m there for every single moment of hers — her first walk, her first laugh, her first word,” she stated.

I enjoy what I used to do, and when the time comes, and when I’m ready, I will definitely head back to work,” she added.

During the lockdown in the COVID-19 pandemic, Geeta and Harbhajan have spent quite a significant amount of time together. Adding a pinch of humour, she said that her friends crack jokes that they are finally ‘living like a married couple’.

Harbhajan is currently taking part in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he is representing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), captained by Eoin Morgan. The 40-year-old returned to competitive cricket after a gap of 699 days.
