It will be illegal to host the IPL 2021 here: Hampshire county boss

IPL 2021

The Indian Premier League 2021 had to be postponed right in the middle of the season as cases started flaring up across the teams. However, BCCI is looking at possible windows in the future to wrap up the plan. Meanwhile, reports stated that several English counties have written to ECB for extending the invitation to BCCI for hosting the remainder of the IPL 2021 in September.

However, in the latest turn of events, the possibility of hosting IPL in the UK has been ruled out. The Hampshire county boss stated that it is illegal to host the IPL there and there have been no serious discussions on the matter. Counties like MCC, Surrey, Warwickshire, and Lancashire proposed the plan of completing the remaining IPL 2021 in two weeks in September.

I did hear about the discussion but I am not sure how it can happen. As per the current arrangement, it will be illegal to host the IPL here,” said Hampshire county boss as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Also, ECB and MCC haven’t made any comment on the matter and The Chief Executive also met ICC officials and IPL was not discussed there on priority. The Chief Executive committee and ICC met virtually on May 6 but didn’t discuss UK as the potential venue for the IPL. There was a discussion on the cricketing calendar post-2023 at length and cricket in the Olympics was also in the talks.

BCCI incurred a huge loss owing to the postponement of IPL 2021

BCCI has already stated that they have incurred a huge loss owing to the postponement of IPL 2021. This is why the officials are looking out for possible slots to complete the remaining season as soon as possible. It will be a thing to see as to how the remaining league will take place in the coming days. The 2021 year cricketing calendar looks tightly packed as the WTC final is to take place in June.

After it, the T20 World Cup is also scheduled to take place in India this year. However, India as a venue is still in a lot of questions.
